ASU-Mountain Home TrailBlazer. Baseball earned their first series sweep of the season over the Greyhounds of ASU-Mid South by winning two games at home on Thursday, April 9th and two on the road on Saturday, April 11th.
Game 1:
ASUMH came out of the gate swinging hot bats as they tallied 13 runs on 9 hits beating ASU-Mid South 13-2 in a run-rule shortend series opener. Broc Mattox, Rylan Jones & JD Hertzog led the way with 2 hits a piece as Hertzog & Mattox tallied 3 RBIs a piece. Mattox ended the game early in the 5th inning with a Home Run to seal the run rule 13-2. Hertzog & Jones also homered in the game. Keaton Matlick picked up the win on the mound tossing all 5 innings, giving up only 2 runs and striking out 4.
Game 2:
ASU-Mid South jumped out to a 6-1 lead before the TrailBlazers offense settled in and scored 7 runs in the last 3 innings to seal the comeback victory. Trailing 8-4 in the 9th, ASUMH rallied for 5 runs in the bottom of the 9th started by a Jett Hannaford home run. Ryder McClain eventually came to the plate with runners at 2nd and 3rd with two outs and delivered a single up the middle to tie the game before the bases would load again for Jett Hannaford's second at bat of the 9th and a bases loaded walk would score the winning run sealing victory for the TrailBlazers. Carson Tosh & Joven Bell were huge out of the bullpen for the TrailBlazers throwing the final 4 innings and holding the Greyhounds to just 2 runs to allow the TrailBlazer offense to get things going and mount a comeback.
Game 3:
Day two of the series began with a steller pitching performance by Matt Byars who tossed a 7 inning complete game victory surrending 3 runs and striking out 6. Broc Mattox homered and had two hits in the game with Rylan Jones adding 3 hits of his own and ASUMH won game 3 to clinch the series 4-3.
Game 4:
ASU-Mountain Home would need another comeback to finish the sweep in game 4 of the series. Down 6-3 after 5 innings, ASUMH scored 6 runs in the 6th followed by 2 in the 7th and 2 in the 8th to lead 13-9 heading into the final frame. ASU-Mid South would threaten in the 9th but thanks to steller bullpen outings Logan Meyer, Kutler Schwarting and Nick Fincher along with consistent scoring in the late innings, ASU-Mountain Home would hold on for a 13-12 victory to complete the sweep and take sole possesion of 2nd place in the region II east standings.
Two weeks remain in the regular season before post season play begin April 30th and the TrailBlazers currently sit in 2nd place which would set them up to host a first round playoff series if standings hold.
